When the Moon Wanes

When the moon wanes

She let’s go of her troubles.

When the moon wanes

She relinquishes pain.

When the moon wanes

She releases her sorrow.

So that when it is new

She may start over again.

  1. Hey Sammi,

You give voice to the tender balm of the Moon and poetry to her waning periodicity. Thank you πŸ™‚

I read a fascinating little fact about the Moon and its relationship to Earth. The Moon exerts a gravitational pull on the Earth’s surface creating drag and keeping the spin of the Earth more evenly regulated. As the Earth slows, so the Moon drifts gently away from Earth, drifting an inch or so annually, since the cascade of tidal effects push the orbiting satellite into space. Eventually the distance between the Earth and the Moon will reach an equilibrium point, and the rotation of the Moon and the Earth will be synchronised. When this happen, those living in the hemisphere not gifted by the permanent shine of the Moon will have to travel half way around the world to see her again… How lonely will the night become with her!

    • Thank you for reading and commenting πŸ™‚

That is very interesting…If it were to happen during my lifetime I would have to move to the other side of the world! Not sure I could do without one of my main sources of inspiration. The night would be lonely indeed!

      Take care,

      Sammi

      • Hey Sammi,

You’re welcome, a delightful poem, it’s my pleasure, thank you πŸ™‚

Indeed, it would be excessively lonely without the beauty of her luminous gaze, and the nights saddened by the loss of her spellbinding charm and comforting embrace.

Are you a night owl Sammi?

      • Am I a night owl? Well, I prefer night to day, moon to the sun, dark to the light, the unseen to the seen…and yet, I could never be nocturnal. I can’t sleep during the day and if I don’t get enough sleep, I get grouchy 😦 Not really sure whether that answers your question…

      • Hey Sammi,

        πŸ™‚ I understand. Thank you.

Sleep deprivation has a similar effect on me. Eventually I loose all connection and float, not always pleasant.

I was considering bird choices for myself, perhaps even thoughtful to know if one could mutate between breeds…surely they must each have their unique appeal to exist as they do? Imagine flight as an Albatross, or the soar of an Eagle, the speed of a hawk, or the elegance of a Peacock. Perhaps we are each and every one of these fabulous creatures as the whim of the moment takes us…

      • πŸ™‚ I find duality, complexity and royalty a fine flock of feathers to consider as favourites.

From your list, my choice would be Raven. A wizard’s bird πŸ˜‰
