A Lesson in Overcoming Fear

First, a little background to this story, so that it makes sense. It comes from a larger collection of flash fiction, which provides the context…

It was the eve of one of the tribe’s coming of age ceremonies; a time when those boys who were ready were initiated into manhood. And so, the valley was full of nervous anticipation…

And now for the story:

The Wise Old Crone was sitting in her garden when the boy appeared. He sat down next to her in silence. Like most who visited, he would speak when he was ready.

‘I’m scared,’ he finally admitted. ‘What can I do to overcome it so that I am strong and brave tomorrow?’

She sighed sympathetically. ‘Nothing, my little lamb. In order to overcome the fear, you must do the thing that scares you.’

His face fell.

‘But don’t worry,’ she whispered. ‘Being afraid won’t stop you from being brave or strong. If it did, we would have no heroes.’

    • Hey Dewin,

I’m doing well, thank you. And yourself? Hope you’re having a charmed week πŸ™‚

Lol. Glad you liked the title.

No need to thank me for reading the poems over at Gallybloggers…as always I was moved and humbled by their experiences, hence the lack of comments on the pieces – I struggle to find the right words to leave behind… I sincerely hope that they are finding being part of Gallybloggers / Raven’s 12 empowering…

Bright Blessings for a Blessed evening πŸ™‚

      • Hey Sammi,

We, the Gallblogging scarecrows, and of course the Raven, feel your presence in The Pasture with us whenever you come by and share your charming company. You have your own space with us Sammi, you know that, a space with room for a view and all the peace and tranquillity you could shake a stick at and enjoy at your leisure.

We hope you shall come by more often, and perhaps we’ll help tease a comment fro your quill πŸ™‚ Thank you Lady Sammi for being a good friend to scarecrows and a Raven.

Hoping Saturday brings happiness in the bloom of a late summer’s rose.

        Namaste πŸ™‚
