The waves sparkled in the sunlight, glimmering, glittering and glistening as if each crest was crowned with silver-white gemstones. The sea looked magical.
We had been on the boat for a few hours when I noticed that there were creatures in the water, following us. But they never broke the surface. At least, not when anyone was watching.
“What are they?”
“Seals. Dolphins,” the captain grunted, annoyed at being disturbed.
“They don’t look like seals or dolphins to me,” I mumbled.
Overhearing, a crew-mate replied, “He’s hardly going to admit to a stranger that he believes in mermaids, is he?”

Aha–Wonderful! This reminds me that I have one or 2 “mermaid” poems in a file somewhere…maybe I should try to find them and post… 🙂
