So it’s that time of year again…tomorrow is the first day of NaNoWriMo (if you don’t know what it is, you can learn more about it here).
Earlier in the year I made the sensible decision not to participate this time because I just have too many projects that require editing and restructuring rather than words adding to them. I thought it would be better to finish what I’ve already started rather than beginning something new. I was quite proud of myself for deciding this; it seemed like a really grown-up writer thing to do…
Only I went and changed my mind a few weeks ago. Why? Because I love it and wanted to start a new novel from scratch, and it’s easier and more fun than editing stuff I’ve already written. For the past two years I joined the ranks of the rebels and worked on completing unfinished short stories that I had languishing on the computer, but this time round I was in the mood for novel-writing.
As the writing group I’m part of (the Plot Bunnies) can attest, the beginning of last week still saw me undecided as to what I wanted to work on this November. I was switching between projects on a daily basis; I have too many ideas and am easily inspired, which can on occasion be as hard to deal with as writers block. However, last Wednesday saw me make my final choice. It’s an Andromache Jones Mystery and quite a dark one.
“Tell us more,” I hear you ask! (No I don’t have hearing problems. It’s just wishful thinking lol 🙂 )
The current title for the project is, “The Sacrifice and The Summoning“. The planning and the outlining for it has actually helped with the structuring of the series as a whole, so even if I don’t write a single word in November, I have achieved something really, really useful.
Anyone else joining in with NaNoWriMo? What are you working on this November? If you want to add me as a writing buddy, my username is “Sammi Cox” (original, I know).
I’m now off to go and bake “soul cakes” for Samhain / Hallowtide. If there’s time this evening, I may even post some pictures.
Have a great evening all, and good luck if you’re participating in NaNo 🙂
