A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments.
Word Prompt
Erosion
Challenge
The challenge is simple: each week you will be given an exact number of words you can use to write a poem or piece of prose. You can use any format or style you like; go wherever your inspiration takes you. The only rules are these:
- your poem / prose must contain this week’s word. The word does not have to count towards the exact word count total – it can be in the title, or the first letters of the lines of a poem can spell it out – you can be as creative as you want as long as it’s there somewhere.
- the length of your poem / prose must match the number of words stated in this week’s challenge. No more. No less.
Can’t wait to read what you have come up with!

Namaste Sammi 🙂
How are you? Another weekend, another Saturday Challenge: both seem to come around so quickly these days. In fact the year is flying-by, wouldn’t you say?
And so it is to the task in hand and 125 words using the prompt ‘Erosion’. Here’s my twaddle this week…
~ Erosion ~ By ~ Dewin Nefol ~
~
Prodded poked subjected to things: pills potions prescriptions.
Far to many to mention: needle-pricks and stings.
As Apothecary discussed his findings,
I tired of his tubular-testing – of being tested.
Instead I intended leaving.
~
The Psychiatrist ended their commentary: confirmed ‘Erosion.’
Of no surprise to me: ‘twas relief to me!
Probably offering reassurance, some small degree.
I had disillusionment: erosion of wonderment – plain to see.
Earth isn’t where I should be.
~
“I can’t abide Earth’s rules: won’t stoop to meet their norm.”
Hell no! John Doe Mercury is destined for greater things: why else these wings!
This isn’t reality promised me by Zeus! Nor Olympus in my eye!
This asylum is not my dream or my lullaby!
Not for this Winged-Messenger of the Sky!
~*~
Thanks for setting the challenge. Enjoy your weekend. Take care
Namaste 🙂

Hey Dewin, how are you? I can’t believe half of 2018 has already gone! Great poem, I enjoyed your take on the word prompt. The winged John Doe Mercury makes for an interesting character, and an interesting story 🙂

Morning Sammi, how are you? 🙂
Thank you for your interesting comment – John Doe Mercury is anyone and everyone, we all have wings to fly! His character is representative of anyone who wants to fly rather than always walk on terrafirma. But yet he could also be a stand-alone character, one who visits within a dream to inspire or guide the sleepers waking hours.
Indeed this year is rushing by, far to quickly but sometimes not quickly enough. What is important is that summer is here and there’s every possibility of a few weeks of sunshine and warm weather to lift, inspire and fill our cups of creativity with vitamin D: which stands for Dew 🙂
I’ll go have a peek at this week’s challenge and see if I am able.
Enjoy your weekend Sammi C, go fill your goblet with Vitamin D 🙂
Namaste 🙂
