Weekend Writing Prompt #86 – Mask

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments.

Challenge

The challenge is simple: each week you will be given an exact number of words you can use to write a poem or piece of prose.  You can use any format or style you like; go wherever your inspiration takes you.  The only rules are these:

  • your poem / prose must contain this week’s word.  The word does not have to count towards the exact word count total – it can be in the title, or the first letters of the lines of a poem can spell it out – you can be as creative as you want as long as it’s there somewhere.
  • the length of your poem / prose must match the number of words stated in this week’s challenge.  No more.  No less.

Can’t wait to read what you have come up with!

  2. Namaste Sammi, how are you? 🙂

Festive Greetings and Seasonal Best Wishes for a wonderful Christmas and prosperous New Year 🙂 I hope the occasion proves to be joyous and you left merry as a berry on the Holly tree.

Taking a moments respite from wrapping and packing, I thought I’d add my 45 words to the lyrical mix.

The task of a mask is defining –
    Little more than camouflage,
A guise to disguise one’s features,
    A facade, vizard or visage.
    ~
    But why shroud to enshroud?
    Why veil, conceal or screen?
Why fear what is to be found?
Or what might otherwise be seen?

    Have a great weekend!

    Namaste 🙂

      • Namaste Sammi 🙂

Thank you, it was an enjoyable exercise: the challenge, at least for me, is in the whittling so as to hit word-count.

I think words, like puzzle pieces, find their own way to place themselves together so as to create an outcome of their choice….sometimes its easier to surrender to their will than instil my will upon them.

Thank you for setting the challenge. Hoping all is well with one and all.

        Namaste 🙂
