This is Part 20 of an on-going serial I’m writing called, “Lyr the Enchanter”. To read the story from the beginning, you can find the story index, here.
I came to, lying on the cold stone floor, with Arastia looking down at me, a mix of worry tempered with impatience on her face.
‘What’s wrong with you?’
‘Nothing,’ I lied. It wasn’t her business.
She didn’t care enough to argue with me. ‘Get up then. We don’t have all day.’
At the end of the rock-hewn tunnel were two stone doors carved with symbols. Guarding the doorway were two otherworldly warriors.
‘He isn’t welcome here,’ one of the guards said, his words barely more than a growl.
‘I’ll be the judge of that,’ Arastia said, stepping forward. The guards crossed their terrifying spears, blocking the doorway.
‘You’re not welcome here, either,’ the other said. ‘But you know that.’
‘We’re here to see my father,’ she answered. ‘Now open these doors.’
‘No,’ the first guard said. ‘You’ve not been summoned. And so the door is closed to you. Both.’
Written for Crimson’s Creative Challenge #20 | Exactly 150 words for this episode! Woohoo! 🙂
How dare the guard! LOL. I’m hooked and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Wow, you’ve progressed the story into an interesting pickle. Now what?
BTW: I love how you’ve slipped the level crossing gates into your narrative. Excellent. And devious.

Why, thank you, Crispina. I had to get quite creative with the last couple of prompts, but it makes for an interesting challenge and ensures the story moves in unexpected directions, methinks. Although I have some semblance of an idea of what is going on (and where the story is going – well, sort of), I am nowhere near certain of what’s to come , just like the reader 🙂
