This is Chapter 21 – Part 1 of an on-going serial I’m writing called, “Lyr the Enchanter”. To read the story from the beginning, you can find the story index, here.
‘Fine,’ Arastia growled, sounding more menacing than the otherwordly guard standing watch outside the entrance to the underworld palace.
She marched off, and hissed, ‘Come along,’ at me, but surprisingly she didn’t retrace our footsteps back to the bridge.
‘Where are we going?’
‘Don’t be so dumb. We’re going to see my father.’ She rolled her eyes at me. I decided to remain silent and just follow.
We took a confusing number of passageways, labyrinthine in the darkness, but my wife did seem to know where she was going. Suddenly the tunnel opened into a vast space and there before us was a pool glinting silver. There was light coming from somewhere, and soft chiming music too.
‘Arastia, where are we?’
‘The Pool of Nothingness.’
‘That sounds…terrifying.’
The water started to ripple. Something was about to break the surface of the pool.
Written for Crimson’s Creative Challenge #21 | Considerably under the word count this time, by my own standards, that is; 142 words…
Okay, what are you going to make of the next prompt? Is it going to go deeper into this chilliness?
How do you manage to shiver my spine in so few words? 🙂
