This is Part 31 of an on-going serial I’m writing called, “Lyr the Enchanter”. To read the story from the beginning, you can find the story index, here.
‘What’s wrong? Get that door open!’ Adrastia hissed, a note of panic in her voice.
‘I can’t. It won’t open.’
‘Move aside. I’ll use magic-‘
‘Don’t be stupid! It was that which got us into this in the first place!’
With hands on hips she asked, ‘Do you have a better idea?’
I glanced over my shoulder. The guardian was gaining ground, far too quickly for my liking. I shook my head.
A noise erupted from one of the barns. Smashing through the doors, a small boat-like horseless carriage, moved through the air towards us.
‘Did you do that?’
‘Nope,’ Adrastia answered.
‘Who did? What is it? And it is here to help us or make matters worse?’
‘You’ve got a lot of questions; which one should I answer first?’ she responded dryly.
When the contraption appeared to yell, “Get in!” we both jumped, but with the guardian almost upon us, we didn’t think twice.

Good use of the prompt. Though I smile that you make it fly instead of sail.

Yes…there was a clear lack of water in the vicinity at the time, though it could have sailed through the air. After this point in the story (I’ve already written the next two chapters), it’s referred to as a floating carriage…

I love the idea of a boat used as a magical floating carriage. That would be great featured in a graphic novel!
