Week 1 of my NaNoWriMo efforts were not too shabby, and I thought I would check-in with others who might have joined in the writing challenge.
I wrote 11,782 words in Week 1, which were divided amongst the following projects because, as I stated here, I am a NaNo Rebel (again) this year:
- My Historical Romance Novel – 6199 words. Completing my first draft is my main writing goal at the moment, so the majority of my words and concentration have gone into this project.
- The Dreamer: An Andromache Jones Mystery Novella – 3581 words. I uploaded another three chapters of this project to Wattpad during Week 1, and again hope that I might get this story completed by the end of the month.
- Oath Broken – 0 new words written 😦 But I have been doing a little prep for writing on this one.
- The Goddess Retreat – 0 new words – With hindsight, I don’t expect to have the time to get any writing done on this project at all…Sigh 😦
- Free Write Sessions – 2002 words. I enjoy the freedom of a Free Write Session, where I can write whatever story I like. I do try and fit one in every day, but time doesn’t always allow for it. However, I have managed to get a handful in, and subsequently I now have a few new pieces of flash fiction and scenes from a couple of short stories complete. Happy Days!
So that’s a quick review of my first week. If you joined in, how are you getting on? Let me know in the comments below, or feel free to message me over on the NaNoWriMo site if you’d prefer!
Wishing everyone who’s participating lots of good luck and best wishes for Week 2!

Oh my, Sammi, I’m very impressed–Wowza!! My first week felt more difficult than last year: I was editing the partial manuscript of my novel before I could start writing Part 2, and it consumed too many hours…discouraging. Then, horrors!–I had to skip a day and just sleep. But I’m making progress, and praying I’ll get the 50,000 words completed by Nov 30…even if the book is STILL NOT finished 🙂 Thanks again for your encouragement–and may you enjoy Great Success with your writing career! ❤

Thanks so much!
I know how that feels. Editing can feel like it gets in the way of writing. But, even if you don’t hit the 50,000 words mark by the end of the month, you not only will have edited Part 1 of your story, but you will have ended November with more words than you started, and that’s what makes it a success! Wishing you all the best! 🙂

Good show, Sammi! 🙂 (clapping). Good numbers for week one. Seriously. This week, I managed to start out by losing 4000 words. What happens when you sneeze while trying to close one of many open windows on your desktop. (shakes head and snorts). Anyway, today, I started out with a free write session… yielded me a little over 3k. Most of it is just gibberish, but I did find a few sentences worth adding to Eyewitness. Wow, I haven’t divided up words per document, at least not in a post. Might do that for tomorrow’s post, though. I have six, possibly seven docs I’m working on this year. I’ve completed 3 so far. I’m trying to finish by next week so when Hubby is home on vacay, we can spend the time together.

Oh no! Horror! I truly feel for you 😦 But a 3K Free Write Session is amazing! Well done!
Wishing you all the best for Week 2, and the rest of the month, of course 🙂

I am a NANO rebel myself. I am rewriting my story from camp. Not going so well. I have around 21,000 words so far.

I sometimes find rewriting harder than editing! But those are great numbers, Tessa! Wishing you all the best with your story 🙂

That sounds reasonable. Well done.
And I just, that’s how we met. That seems such a long while ago. But it was only 2018

I know what you mean. 2018 wasn’t that long ago at all but it feels like I’ve known you forever! That’s one of the great things about challenges like this, you meet some great people! 🙂

For me, that was the value of it. And I’ve recommended the experience to others…, for that factor alone. You, Joy & Dale. Such wonderful friends. Although I did know Joy before then
