Who holds the keys to spring?

.

I long for mid-teen temperatures

A soft, gentle breeze

To beckon spring in

Watch winter leave

.

To blow out the cobwebs

Lighten the air

To chase away shadows

Paint all in spring cheer

.

With an artist’s palette

A perfumier’s scents

Swap grey slate for pastels

Spices for floral fragrance

.

The earth will warm and awaken

The sun strengthen and shine

Spring at last will settle

I do feel it is time

Excavating the Archives: Impatient Earth

Winter had quickly given way to spring. The snow had melted and as the earth warmed, nature awakened, almost impatient to put behind it the death and the darkness of the colder months.

Suddenly the world was alive with early season colour. Trees were in bud. Delicate pink blossom clung to boughs until an eager breeze dislodged them, sending them dancing through the air like a spring snowfall.

Daffodils, snowdrops, violets, and primroses pushed their way through the recently roused earth to bloom above ground in sunbeam yellow, rich cream, snow white and watercolour purple.

And so the wheel turns….

Hedgerows, Wildflowers, Stormy Skies and Ruins – A Day of Photos

Today was spent out and about, enjoying the English countryside…walking through fields taking photographs of wildflowers and checking out how the fruits of the hedgerow are coming along.  It’s not quite the season yet for picking blackberries or the berries of the hawthorn (haws).  We managed to dodge the downpours, but I took the opportunity to snap a few photos of the moody sky.  This backdrop really gave an atmospheric edge to the church ruins.  And naturally, such inspiration has resulted in a number of poetic scribbles…

Impatient Earth

It seems a little strange, a little out of step, to be writing about spring when autumn is slowly claiming the natural world where I live, but while I try and fill the last few remaining empty chapters of the Outcast anthology, I must work with the relevant prompts…

“Impatient Earth” was written in response to Weekend Writing Prompt #45 Spring

One Turn of The Wheel

I have some really exciting news that I want to share with you all today.  My first little book, One Turn of The Wheel, has just been published by Three Drops Press.

Isn’t the cover beautiful…

Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn – so the wheel turns.
As they journey through the seasons, readers of all ages are invited to meet nature deities, a bewildered changeling, loving families who stick together, so-called friends who cannot be trusted, goblins, wizards, vengeful witches, helpful witches, and many others besides. Right at home in the long folk and fairy tale tradition, these are stories for enjoying year after year, and in all weathers.

You can learn more about One Turn of The Wheel, by following this link to the publisher’s website, where you can also read one of the stories from the collection, The Goblin Dance.  (If perchance you do, please, please, please let me know what you think!)

I can’t thank Kate from Three Drops Press enough for all her hard work.  This has been such a fun and exciting experience.

I shall have to think how to celebrate – maybe with a book launch right here on the blog?  If you have any ideas, please let me know!

One Turn of The Wheel can be purchased through Lulu.

Summer Spells are Stirring

This morning I completed the final read through of Summer Spells, the latest multiple-author anthology I’ve been working on as part of my labour of love, Dreaming Spirit Press.  Once more I find myself overwhelmed by the standard of the submissions that were sent this way, and I am just…so…excited!

With only a few more days to wait before it is released on Wattpad, I thought I would do something I did with the first of the seasonal anthologies, Winter Magic, and that is set the mood with a few summer-themed pictures.  These photos will become the chapter header images when the poems and prose are posted on Wattpad…

So, what do you think?  Do they capture the essence of summer?

Winter Magic is Brewing

With only a few days left before the multiple-author anthology I have been collating, Winter Magic, is released, I thought I would share a few pictures to help set the mood.  I am overwhelmed by how the project is looking, thanks to the amazing submissions that were sent this way.  The anthology will be available to read only through Wattpad (except for those wishing to access a PDF copy in exchange for an honest review).  More details to follow…for now, some pretty pictures…

Autumn Alchemy

The autumn sunshine

Catches the leaves as they fall

Turning their shades of death

Into precious gold.
