The Magician is the dark debut of the soon to be available Andromache Jones Mystery series. This is a prelude to the witchy whodunnit series, and your chance to get to know the heroine of the books.

Blogging

Blogging-wise, I’ve been occupied with my reading challenges over at Sammi Loves Books (July was Indie Only Month and August was Historical Fiction Month).  And this got me thinking that, wouldn’t it be a great way to get back into posting regularly as well as unleashing a little creativity, to create a writing challenge for Sammi Scribbles.  And so, A Month of Mini Writing Challenges was born.  If you are interested in joining in / learning more, keep your eyes peeled for a dedicated post in the very, very near future 🙂

My website has been updated and been given a new look.  What do you think?  I like the moving background – it invokes a sense of otherworldly mystery, I think…I also have a page now for my Wattpad stories, accompanied by excerpts (hopefully) tempting enough to persuade you to read them 😀

If you look to the sidebar, you will see that I also have a (very bare looking) Facebook page now.  Please check  it out and give it a ‘like’.  The plan is to use it as a hub for my online writing activities, so I will be posting links to my writing, book reviews and anything else of interest.

And I think that’s everything…Hopefully with this mini writing challenge starting today I will be posting a little more regularly…at least for a while 🙂  Tomorrow begins the monumental task of catching up with everyone’s blogs.  There is a mountain of reading awaiting for me, and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in!

Busy be the month of June…(a few updates)

June has been a very busy month…

It began with my sister’s wedding last week.  It was such a lovely day and I was so proud to be Maid of Honour.  My bouquet is currently sitting in a cream-coloured jug on my mantelpiece.  Here is a snap of the flowers:

The Fortune Teller Detective Update

It’s been sometime since I have written anything hereabouts regarding Andromache Jones and the first volume of short story mysteries that I have tentatively titled, The Fortune Teller Detective, apart from giving it the briefest of mentions here.  So an update is long over due…

This first collection is now complete.  That’s five short stories in all, with a little bit of flash fiction introducing the collection and setting the scene, and another bit at the end to bring it to a close whilst setting up the storyline for the first novel.  Each story also has an ‘extra’ that ties in with it somehow, which was fun to create.  At the end of the book I have collated a list of characters from all the stories, as well as an explanation of all the places mentioned in them.

When I first started The Magician in September 2012, I had no idea that I would create a volume of short stories that would be set before the first novel.  At the time, I had already written what I thought would be the first two novels in the series, and was half way through a third.  That has now changed as the first novel in the series is also set before what was originally book one.  Another point that I struggle to believe is that it has taken nearly three years to get The Fortune Teller Detective this far.

But I have enjoyed every minute of it.  And I can’t wait to begin putting the finishing touches to novel #1.  The plan for the novels is to try and go down the traditional publishing route if it’s possible.  But at this time I don’t know what is going to happen with The Fortune Teller Detective.  The first two stories, The Magician and The Apparition are already available to read for free from a number of places, which although it helps to get the series known, must reduce the value of the short story collection as a whole in the eyes of a publisher…

Celebrating the little things…with tea and biscuits

I believe in celebrating the celebrating the little things…The Apparition, the second of the Andromache Jones Mysteries short stories had it’s own little anniversary last month.  Tuesday 17th February saw the first anniversary of it’s publication.

And so, in honour of this little celebration, and in true Andromache Jones style, we had plenty of home-baked shortbread biscuits, naturally star-shaped and dipped in purple and white icing.  (if you have read the short stories, you will know how much Andromache loves her tea and biscuits!)

An Anniversary to Celebrate

Last week saw the anniversary of The Magician’s publication.

It has been two years – two years! – since I self-published my first short story, and thought seriously about becoming an author rather than it remaining an unfilled dream.  So, to me, the 7th October is quite an important anniversary in my life, which is why for the past couple of weeks I had been running a countdown in the sidebar.

To mark it this year I decided I want to do something a little special, something that Andromache Jones herself would approve of.  So, naturally, we had a tea party!  I did all the baking myself – the photos below are of the cakes and biscuits we consumed in ridiculous amounts, served, of course, with copious amounts of tea:
